Ezzard Taylor Sentenced to 90 Years in Prison

Montgomery County, Ala. – A Montgomery man who pled guilty to shooting his former girlfriend in the chest was sentenced to 90 years in prison, District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced.

Ezzard Taylor was sentenced by Judge Jimmy Pool to 90 years in prison – 30 years each for first-degree assault, stalking, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

On Jan. 8, 2017, Taylor drove to the 700 block of Early Street, where he found Kanequa Morris and Kewonda King sitting in King’s car in the driveway. He approached the two women and they attempted to drive off, but Taylor blocked the car with his vehicle.

Taylor shot into King’s car twice. One of the bullets struck Morris in the chest and remains lodged near her heart to this day. Taylor, who had an on and off again relationship with Morris for several years, stated during sentencing that he was “sorry for inconveniencing” her. He has two prior felonies.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey expressed his appreciation to Deputy District Attorneys Damon Lewis and Michele Davidson for their outstanding work. He also thanked Investigators J.P Wilson and Callie Clark and the Montgomery Police Department for their work in the investigation of the case.

District Attorney Bailey said: “Sadly, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner in the United States. I am glad that we were able to get justice for Ms. Morris and get this abuser and repeat criminal offender off the streets. Everyone has the right to live their life safely and free of violence.
