Benitez Sankey Found Guilty of Second-Degree Assault

Montgomery County, Ala. – Benitez Sankey has been found guilty of Second-Degree Assault, District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced.

On September 28, 2018, Sankey and another man got into an argument in front of Sankey’s home. The dispute turned violent when Sankey produced a gun and shot the victim at close range, hitting him in the leg. He then fled the scene. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors worked to save his leg.

Sankey faces 15 years to life in prison on the Second-Degree Assault conviction because he has four prior felony convictions. He will be sentenced October 15, 2019, by Judge Brooke Reid.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey expressed his appreciation to Deputy District Attorneys Steven Chumbler and Jonathan Morgan for their work on the case. He also thanked DA Investigators Terrance James and Andrew Magnus for their efforts in the investigation and prosecution of this case.

District Attorney Bailey said: “This has got to stop. We all deserve to live in a safe and prosperous community where we don’t have to be fearful of the senseless acts of violence that are plaguing our City. We will continue to do everything in our power to remove violent offenders like Benitez Sankey from our streets.”
