A Montgomery County District Attorney Office Investigator is being recognized by his peers across the state for his exemplary work, demonstrating the highest levels of integrity and professionalism, and for serving as a positive role model in the community.
Andrew Magnus is the 2024 recipient of the B.J. Gatlin Memorial Award for the Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office submitted a summary of his vast contributions to the office over the years to the Alabama District Attorney Investigators Association, which presents the award annually.
District Attorney Daryl Bailey said Investigator Magnus is a vital member of the Montgomery District Attorney’s Office Investigation Unit, which he joined in 2019. Investigator Magnus leads the Special Services Division, which includes the Worthless Check and Restitution Units. He has also worked on several major cases, helping prosecutors obtain key evidence and tracking down witnesses who are essential to getting successful convictions.
District Attorney Bailey said, “Our entire office is elated that Andrew Magnus has been selected as the 2024 District Attorney Investigator of the Year. He has been instrumental in helping our prosecutors prepare for and obtain convictions in some of our most difficult cases. As the director of the Special Services Division, Investigator Magnus has worked to expand our restitution efforts to ensure offenders are being held accountable for their crimes. He is committed to his job and works tirelessly every day for the citizens of Montgomery County.”
Prior to joining the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Investigator Magnus worked for the Montgomery Police Department for 20 years. He served in various roles, including Detective Supervisor of the Cold Case Investigations Unit, homicide investigator, and K-9 officer, among other duties.
He is the third member of the Montgomery DA’s Office Investigations Unit to be selected as the Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year. Chief Investigator Michael Thomas was the 2014 recipient of this prestigious honor, while Investigator John “J.P” Wilson III, received the award in 2019.
Investigator Magnus said he was surprised to learn he had been selected as the 2024 Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year, noting the honor inspires him to remain steadfast in his commitment to his work.
“It is my honor to serve the citizens of Montgomery County and to work with such an amazing group of people. I have dedicated my career to fighting crime in Montgomery County, first as a homicide detective and now as a District Attorney Investigator,” Magnus said. “While I have not sought any accolades or acknowledgement for my work, I am proud of the work we do and am deeply honored and humbled that I have been given this award.”
