Jacquees Boone Found Guilty of Attempted Murder

Montgomery County, Ala. – A Montgomery County jury has found Jacquees Boone guilty of attempted murder, District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced today.

Boone was convicted in February 2015 for the March 2014 shooting of Alondre Cooley, who was left paralyzed from the chest down by a bullet that is still lodged in his spine. In 2015, Boone was found guilty of attempted murder, but that conviction was vacated, and the case went back to trial in October 2017.

During that trial, the brother of the victim, Kelvin Cooley, testified as a witness for the prosecution. Immediately following his testimony, he was shot and killed outside of the courthouse.

Due to the witness being killed, the court declared a mistrial and the case was tried again this week, resulting in Jacquees Boone’s conviction. Jacquees Boone’s brother, Josephus Boone, is currently charged with capital murder in Kelvin Cooley’s death.

After today’s verdict was read, Jacquees Boone resisted being taken into custody by the courtroom deputies, saying they would have to kill him. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 30, 2019, and is facing 20 years to life in prison.

District Attorney Daryl Bailey expressed his appreciation to Deputy District Attorneys Michele Davidson and Damon Lewis for their outstanding work. He also thanked Investigators J.P. Wilson and John Brown and the Montgomery Police Department for their work in the investigation of the case.

District Attorney Bailey said: “Alondre Cooley has had to endure years of suffering due to Jacquees Boone’s despicable actions. I hope this conviction gives Alondre and his family some semblance of peace. We want to permanently remove this criminal from our community, and as such will be asking for the maximum sentence of life in prison.”
